As Scotland prepares to host the first ever UCI Cycling World Championships, NHS 24 is promoting information on how to access health and care services for both residents and visitors to Scotland.

From the 3rd to the 13th of August, the UCI Cycling World Championships will feature a variety of events, including road racing, track cycling, BMX, and mountain biking. The biggest cycling event ever staged will take place across Scotland, with the bulk of events taking place in and around Glasgow city centre.

“It’s exciting that Scotland is hosting the first UCI Cycling World Championships” says NHS 24’s Director of Service Delivery, Pauline Howie. “These events will offer both the athletes and spectators a unique opportunity to experience Scotland’s hospitality. Therefore, we want all attendees to know that NHS 24 is here to support them and can provide help to access the right care in the right place should they need medical advice.”

NHS 24 is Scotland’s provider of digital and telephone-based health and care services including,

  • 111 - available around the clock. This service provides urgent care triage for anyone who thinks they need A&E, but it is not life or limb threatening, offers support for those in mental health distress, or advice when their GP, pharmacy or dental practice is closed.
  • NHSinform.scot – an online health resource which provides access to quality assured health and care information. The website offers access to symptom checkers, Scotland’s Service Directory and mental health advice and resources.
  • NHS 24 Online app – free to download to both iOS and Android devices. The app includes a ‘Chat with us’ chatbot for information on common ailments and conditions. It can also direct the user to the nearest health and care services.

Pauline continues, “We have put together a dedicated resource on NHS inform to make it quick and simple to find the information you need on services, fast. Whether you need advice on accessing healthcare or medicines, minor ailments or injuries, dentists, or where to find your nearest accident and emergency department, you will be able to find the information you need by visiting NHS inform.

“We hope everyone has a fantastic time while attending the event. We encourage all attendees at the UCI Cycling World Championships to familiarise themselves with these services, so they can quickly get the help and advice they need, should they need it.”
